A Letter to Parents
Hello there and thank you for taking the time to read this.
I want you to know that on my site, I have included a page called:
With all that has been happening in the schools today, I felt the need to put some sort of information that may give kids the knowledge that they need to see the signs that may help them stop an incident from happening. I know that violence is not isolated to the schools. However, maybe these sites can be a starting point that will lead to you finding even more information that may help both you and your children gain the knowledge that you need to help prevent more tradgedies from happening.
I've also included two site links to DARE related pages. If you are not familiar with the DARE program, it is where the schools and police officials come together to fight the war on drugs. Even elementary schools are involved to get the younger kids off on the right track. One of the DARE sites that I have listed, was created by a group of 5th graders and is very well done---after all, who better than the kids themselves to tell their of their situations.
I had wanted to write this, so that you understand that these pages deal with some very important issues that I feel should involve both kids and grown-ups alike. We need to keep informed of these topics as, (unfortunately), these problems are getting to be worse each year.
My suggestion is that you go over these sites with your kids, together. Discuss what is represented there. Some of the topics and graphics may be hard to take, however, I feel that they are necessary to drive these points home.
If you would like to write to me with any suggestions, please feel free. I welcome any comments you may have on this subject and if you know of any other sites that I could include on this page, please let me know.
I would just like to be able to stop another child from being hurt. We need to reach out to them and understand that what they face each day, may not have been our personal experience when we were their age. Communication is the key here, and I feel that the web is a great way to get started.
I do hope that you understand that not only did I put this page up for necessity, but also out of anger. I'm angry that it IS necessary to place a page like this on a site where I try to promote fun & learning. I'm angry that children are dying at the hands of other children and I'm angry because right now, we seem to be at a loss of what we can do. So, I thought I would try this way, for now.
Thank you again for stopping here. I hope those sites are useful and that we can all:
Sincerely,
Christie :)
